{Whimsical Princess Party}

Our birthday parties are complete for 2010!  Our son had his robot party last weekend and our daughter had her "purple princess party" this past weekend.  By the way, still recovering from that one!  I have photos from both, however, today's post is of a  photo heavy "purple princess party."  I mentioned a while back that my daughter had wanted a "purplicious" party for her 5th b-day.  I had TONS of ideas flowing for an awesome art party, but she wasn't havin' it.  We compromised and decided to do a "purple princess" party.  Basically, everything was in shades of purple {even the attire of the guests}.
Here's a look at the basics...

THEME: Purple & Princesses
DECOR: Whimsy Elegance
GUESTS: 50 people
BUDGET: $100 {went slightly over at $125}{bet you think I'm crazy to try to stick to a budget of $100 for 50 people, huh?}
LOCATION: Local Park which overlooks the San Diego skyline
ACTIVITIES: Play area at the park, face-painting, bubbles, horseshoes & decorating crowns & knight swords.
FOOD:  Hot dogs, salad, veggie tray, kettle chips, water, juice boxes, soda & cupcakes for dessert.

{The Invitation}

Setting the tone for the party...I designed these invites and had them printed at Costco.  Miss A. and I stuffed the envelopes with the invite and tons of sparkly pink and purple crown confetti {hand-punched by me}.

{The set-up}

The winds were cool and VERY strong that day so LOTS of the decorations were blowing around and falling down.  That was a huge lesson for me in accepting imperfection. :)  The purple curtains were supposed to be a backdrop for the dessert table but because of the strong winds, I had to drape them along the back canopy posts.  Despite the strong winds, it came out alright.  Not exactly how I imagined but the kids LOVED it!

{The dessert table}

Frog Prince banner handmade by me.  Cupcake picks also made by me.

{Dessert Table}

We forgot to pack my favorite cupcake stand but I managed to fit some on this cake pedestal.

{Gift Table}

The favor bags came out soooo cute.  But in the business, I didn't get a pic before sending them home with the kiddos.  Our gift table centerpiece was this cute foam castle {constructed by Miss A. and I}.  We sent it home with our nieces, as they're going to be big sisters soon.  The top-note sign was the perfect way to tie in the princess theme.

{Favor Bag Contents}

The favor bags were filled with a few things that we thought every prince or princess needs...
music to dance to {kazoo}
fance jewels {ring pop}
magic wand
bubbles to dance in
a lil sidekick{monster finger puppet}
tasty treats {chocolate}
frog :)

I strung tissue paper poofs and mini crowns marked with the number "5" throughout the canopy.

Some more up close pics of the signs which we posted around the party.

That's your peek at the decor.  Stay tuned...tomorrow I'll be posting the remainder of the party pics {including pics of all our activities}.  If you're interested in knowing how I stayed on budget for this party, leave me a comment.

Be Blessed,

Unreal! I can't believe you did that for $100. I'm planning a four year old's princess party right now, and you just gave me some great ideas! Thank you thank you!

I remember this age. It must be hardwired for the 5-year old girls to want purple and princesses. Cute!
