{Thanksgiving Paper Chain}

If your child is anything like mine, they've already started wondering how many days til' Christmas. Since our oldest is only 4.5 years old, I figured we needed to have a tangible representation of the days left until Thanksgiving. I mean, come on we can't start our Christmas countdown yet {I'm still working on my Advent calendar :) } In all seriousness, we can't skip over the day when we stuff ourselves full of fried turkey, smoked duck, ham, blue cheese mashed potatoes, chipolte mashed potatoes, bacon wrapped figs, pumpkin soup, smoked salmon stuffed deviled eggs finished off with a slice of pumpkin pie. Awesome...I'm stuffed just thinking about it! So...our "Saturday Eve Crafting" consisted of making a "Turkey Day" paper chain countdown. We pieced together this fun little turkey from various scrapbook papers and brainstormed some ways to show thankfulness. We jotted our ideas down on each paper link and hung "Tom" up on the wall. What a fun activity to begin teaching our children gratitude! I think they're quite thankful for "Tom." and the time we had creating him.

Here are a few of the ideas we wrote on our chain links:
Give Mommy a hug & say thank you for caring for me.
Give Daddy a hug & say thank you for caring for me.
Hug your brother.
Draw a picture for Grandma & Papa and tell them "Thank you for..."
Thank God for 3 things.
At the dinner table, share something from your day that you're thankful for.

How are you teaching your children gratitude?

Wow. Your Thanksgiving meal sounds incredible (especially the blue cheese mashed potatoes). Yummy.

Your turkey countdown is amazing! I'm definitely going to bookmark this idea!

that is a great idea! We have a "thankful wall" where we cut out pictures from a magazine. With kids ages 1 and 3 writing means very little. I love that turkey!

Awesome...we do a 'Thankful Tree' of dead limbs & paper leaves that have written notes of thankfulness. We share all our thoughts on Thanksgiving. I've yet to get this year's started, so thanks for the reminder!

That turkey is so cute. I was looking for a craft idea to do with my sunday school class at church so we could show how we were thankful. I think I will have them make a "Thankful Turkey" like the awsome one you made.
